In 2011 when the EPC-A and PCC first visited the Malawi, the pastors were walking and cycling to each of their 4-5 congregations, thus seeing them once in as many weeks. The long distance traveled also took its toll on the health of the ministers.

Several options were evaluated including electric pushbikes, the locally popular Yamaha 125 trail bike and reconditioned Australian motorbikes. Eventually the final choice was the Honda 4-stroke, which mechanic Jono surmised to be the most robust and maintenance-free of all the options. We also got a few Yamaha 2-stroke bikes as spare parts were abundant.

The pastors have been pleased with these motorbikes and report that the Hondas need little upkeep besides fuel and checking the tyre pressure. Over the three years of intense use they have exceeded our expectations, having each clocked 40,000km. During the 2016 trip Jono had a chance to strip down, repair and servicing the 5 motor bikes that the ministers use in their preaching circuit.

Like the dusty feet of the evangelist, these motorbikes have a resilient beauty, and their wear is testament to their faithful service in bringing the gospel of peace to remote villages.

How beautiful upon the mountains are the feet of him that bringeth good tidings, that publisheth peace; that bringeth good tidings of good, that publisheth salvation; that saith unto Zion, Thy God reigneth!  Isa52:7 (KJV)
